Preseason Q&A with Coach Ricky Knight
The emerging leaders for LBW Women's & Men's team are the sophomores.
Q: What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
A: Our goal every year is to play for a conference championship. Our expectation is to have a winning season while continuing to improve through the course of the year. We want to be a better team at the end. We have to be ready to make a run through conference games when we start the second half of the season.
Q: Who are the emerging leaders within the program?
A: On our men's team, the sophomores have shown great leadership so far in preseason practices. Sophomore leadership is going to be the key to our success on the men's side.
On the women's side, our two returning sophomores (Olivia McLaughlin and Nia Similien) have also shown leadership in practices and need to guide the young team through the season.
Q: What returning player(s) has improved and impressed you the most so far?
A: Nicholas Bennett and Jagger Young have stepped up to take starting guard roles.
Q: What freshman player has impressed you the most so far? What do you see as his/her role on the team this year?
A: Men – I have been pleased with the freshmen performances thus far. Our freshmen are going to play productive minutes for us to be competitive.
Women – We are freshmen heavy, so we need our freshmen to step up and produce immediately. The freshmen are going to have to adjust to the speed of the game and mature quickly.
